Welcome to the Dog Agility Area at Llys-y-frân – or ‘Bark Park’ as some of our visitors have called it.
Exercise is vital for doggie health and although there are plenty of opportunities for ‘walkies’ all over the Llys-y-frân estate, the agility park offers an opportunity for some off-leash exercise.
Owners certainly get a good workout too!
The area is free to use and located on the far side of the Visitor Centre. Equipment includes a jump-through, weave posts, a ‘catwalk’ and seesaw.
Dogs are always welcome at Llys-y-frân but we would like to remind visitors that the Dog Agility Area is the only place on site where dogs may be let off the leash. Dogs should be kept on a lead elsewhere – this includes the track around the reservoir – and out of the water.
The reason for this is to minimise impact on wildlife. Llys-y-frân is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) which means we have important and fragile habitats and species to protect. Keeping dogs on a lead minimises disturbance and prevents fouling in protected areas.
Also, a dog on a leash is easier to control on our cycle trails, minimising the chance of collisions and keeping all visitors safe from diseases spread in dog faeces, such as Toxocara canis (which can cause blindness in humans).
