From simple strolls to challenging hikes, this is the perfect place to enjoy fresh air and wonderful views.
There are picnic tables along the way, so you can stop and enjoy the Welsh countryside at its best.
Visitors should wear appropriate footwear when walking our trails.
The mix of farmland, woodland, scrub and waterside habitats means Llys-y-Frân Lake is an area rich in wildlife and nature.
It’s home to badgers, foxes, otters, polecats, stoats, squirrels and rabbits, and a wide variety of bats and smaller mammals. We have mini-beasts in their plenty from butterflies to beetles and many species of everyone’s favourite pollinator – the bee.
Walkers and cyclists share these trails, so please treat each other with respect and consideration. Although walkers have priority, please do let cyclists pass safely.
All cyclists ride the routes anticlockwise.

Dogs are always welcome at Llys-y-frân but we would like to remind visitors that the Dog Agility Area is the only place on site where dogs may be let off the leash. Dogs should be kept on a lead elsewhere – this includes the track around the reservoir – and out of the water.
From 19 January to 2 April 2026, the walking routes and bike trails on the western side of the lake are closed for essential works including the removal and replacement of the footbridge in Velindre Wood.
